Additional lane, road closures and water service shutdown planned in various areas
Guardrail repairs and installation, bridge work and water system improvements are all planned for several locations around the Garden Isle through April 16. Lane and road closures will accompany many of the projects, weather permitting.
Child on Oʻahu confirmed to have measles
The unvaccinated child was traveling internationally with their parents and developed symptoms shortly after returning to Hawaiʻi. Another household member is now exhibiting similar symptoms and being evaluated for possible infection.
60-year-old injured hiker rescued from Ditch Trail in Kōke‘e
The woman and Kaua‘i resident was found about a half-mile into the trail off Camp 10 Road, also known as the Sugi Grove campsite, suffering from an apparent ankle injury. First responders used a combination of specialized equipment to safely extract her from the trail because of the challenging terrain.
74-year-old Kīlauea man dies after entering waters at North Shore beach during high surf advisory
Peter Koorenhof was unresponsive when he was pulled out of the water at Kalihiwai Beach the morning of April 7. An autopsy is pending to detemine his exact cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.

High surf conditions and powerful current activity at Hanalei Bay and along the entire North Shore are making ocean activities hazardous. A high surf warning is in effect through 6 p.m. today (April 6).
