Officials today, Feb. 8, 2026, restricted Hāna Highway to local traffic only due to reports of fallen trees and landslides, among other safety issues, during the severe weather event that started Saturday. This means only residents and visitors living or staying in East Maui should be driving on Hāna Highway through the front (Haʻikū) or the back (Kaupō) sides.
Hawaiian Electric working on power restoration across Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island
Nearly 7,900 customers are without power in areas of Oʻahu, including Nānākuli, ʻAiea, Waiau, Kalihi, Honolulu and Mānoa. On Hawaiʻi Island, about 1,400 customers are without power in areas including Hilo and along the Hāmākua coast. On Maui, crews are addressing pocket outages, primarily in Upcountry Maui. About 450 customers have been restored to power on the Valley Isle.
