Firefighters attacked the fire from Kapule Highway and extinguished the blaze shortly before 3 p.m.

Kaua‘i Police Department closed Kapule Highway while Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel battled the blaze. The highway has since reopened.

Personnel from the Līhu‘e Fire Station, Rescue 3, Tanker 3, the on-duty Kaua‘i Department battalion chief and Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.

It was the second fire to be extinguished Saturday in roughly the same area.

Firefighters responded early Saturday morning to an about 50-by-50-foot brush fire in the Hanamāʻulu Beach Park area near the old Hanamāʻulu Bridge, below Kapule Highway.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened in that blaze either. It also caused Kapule Highway to be closed while firefighters responded.
