Genetics students at University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo visit ‘living laboratory’ traditional Hawaiian fishpond
Students worked with community stewards of Kaumaui, a loko iʻa in the Keaukaha community on the south side of Hilo Bay on the Big Island, to help with restoration and preservation efforts and collect water samples for DNA testing back on campus as part of their semester-long experiment.
Waimea Cook Field to be closed for improvement, repair project
The facility will be shuttered from March 10 to January 2026. Parking along the west side of Ola Road, from the tennis courts to Kaumuali‘i Highway, will be closed to the public during the project. Parking along Tsuchiya Road adjacent to the tennis courts will also be off-limits.
