Annual Hā’ena to Hanalei Race to raise money for local canoe club

The annual fundraiser, which takes place on June 7, for the Hanalei Canoe Club draws thousands of participants each year from across the islands and the mainland.

Wendy Norcross and her husband Frank Wattunen launched their final paddle out today (April 13) into the Hanalei River on their journey to float waters in honor of Norcross’ parents, both of whom died from dementia, while raising awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Paddling and wa’a culture are the root of the  Lūʻau this year, which has not been hosted for several years.
