(KAUAʻI, Hawaiʻi) – A series of community workshops will be held across Kauaʻi in March to support development of the Kauaʻi Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), a collaborative effort to strengthen wildfire preparedness, mitigation, and safety island-wide.
Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO), in partnership with the Kauaʻi Fire Department, Kauaʻi Emergency Management Agency, and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), is inviting residents, landowners, agencies, and community organizations to participate in the planning process.
Wildfires threaten people, property, and natural resources from mauka to makai. The CWPP process provides an opportunity to establish shared goals and priorities, identify practical next steps, and strengthen coordination between communities and agencies working to reduce wildfire risk.
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is a voluntary, collaborative process that builds a culture of shared responsibility around wildfire safety. The resulting document is nationally recognized and helps position communities and projects for eligibility under federal wildfire mitigation grant programs.
