Authors ‘talk story’ at Aloha Spice
Visit with published authors Jessica Chun Williams and Laurie Napua Fagen about how their writing journeys have been influenced by the islands at Aloha Spice in Hanapepe, Kauai from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sun., Dec 14.
Chun Williams, originally born and raised in Honolulu, published Turkey Savvy, a coffee table cookbook that includes time-tested recipes, shopping lists and more for a complete holiday meal. Growing up on dim sum and rice for Thanksgiving and Christmas on Oahu, it wasn’t until she married her Caucasian husband from Michigan when she learned how to cook a turkey and all the trimmings.
Fagen, a part-time resident in Lihue and daughter of kamaainas from Maui and Hawaii Island, writes crime fiction mystery novels. Behind the Mic is her first series, which includes Fade Out, Dead Air and Bleeder, about a young radio reporter who covers the crime beat, solves cold cases and writes campy mystery podcasts. Raw Image, the first book in her new Behind the Lens mystery thriller series, is about a television reporter photographer whose mission is to expose sex traffickers, and is partially set on Kauai. Fagen spent most of her career in broadcast journalism.
Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to Chun Williams and Fagen about their writing, and get personalized, signed books for themselves or gifts.
