What: Namahana School invites the public to a land blessing ceremony on the site of its future campus in Kīlauea Town. The event officially marks the one-year countdown to Namahana’s opening in fall 2025. Families can submit their intent to enroll and enjoy a hands-on experience of the school’s unique educational model.
Who: Namahana School, a new public charter middle and high school for Kaua‘i’s North Shore, will welcome its first cohort of students in grades 7 and 8 on August 4, 2025. It purchased a permanent site in Kīlauea Town last year with overwhelming support from the community, and is currently in the first phase of its campus development.
When: Sunday, August 4, 2024 9 - 10 a.m. Land blessing 10 - 12 p.m. Site tours, fun activities & intent to enroll.
Where: Namahana School site, across from the Kīlauea Post Office, Kīlauea Town
Info: After a land blessing ceremony in the morning, participants can choose to participate in fun activities, site tours, or chat with members from Big Picture Learning (Namahana’s educational partner). This event will also be the first time families can declare their intent to enroll in Namahana, providing an initial student count that will inform the school’s pre-opening plans. Formal enrollment will take place in early 2025. Attendees are encouraged to bring lei for the land blessing; plants (edible, native, community significant) for the school nursery; and a shirt, clothing, or tea towel for screen printing activities.
