Bring home a shelter pet from the Kaua’i Humane Society for Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks and make an animal in need’s holiday wish come true! Open your heart and home to give a pet a cozy holiday break—no strings attached. From playful puppies and kittens to snuggly senior pets, there’s a companion waiting to share the season with you and your family.

Please Note: This is an overnight field trip program run by the front desk, not our foster program. Please direct all questions to our front desk staff at customerservice@kauaihumane.org. Our Front Desk Team will assist with paperwork, supplies, and help you find a shelter pet that matches your holiday plans. If you fall in love, adoption fees are waived after the holidays! 💖

Get Started:

1. Find Your Holiday Buddy: Browse our adoptable cats and dogs on our website.
2. Sign Up at the Shelter: Walk into the shelter before Thanksgiving or Christmas break and let our front desk know you’d like to join Home for the Holidays! They will provide the paperwork, supplies (if needed), and get the shelter pet ready to go home with you for the holiday.
3. Enjoy the Holiday: You can either house a shelter pet during one or all of the holidays through New Years. If you plan to keep a shelter pet through New Years, you may stop by the shelter to pick up Anti-Anxiety medication for your KHS shelter animal.

Why Home for the Holidays? 

This overnight field trip program is a great way for our shelter pets to enjoy the holidays in the comfort of a temporary home, improve their social skills, and increase their adoption chances. This annual event brings joy to the many local families who want to create a memorable holiday while helping Kaua’i’s shelter pets get the care and attention they deserve.
