Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen said, given the gravity of the ongoing wildfire crisis, he would not waste time finding someone to replace administrator Herman Andaya.

The Maui Police Department confirmed Thursday afternoon that 71-year-old Donna Gomes of Lahaina is the latest victim of the deadly wildfires to be named.

The Hawai’i gasoline marketer and convenience store operator also launched an in-store fundraising initiative at its Aloha Island Mart locations on Kaua‘i, the Big Island, O‘ahu and Maui

The crash happened Aug. 14 at the junction of Kūhiō Highway and North Waiakalua Road.

The three-day Made in Hawai‘i Festival is planned for this weekend, Aug. 18-20, at the Hawai‘i Convention Center in Exhibition Halls I and II.

While on Maui, the Bidens will be welcomed by state and local leaders to see firsthand the impacts of the wildfires and the devastating loss of life and land that has occurred on the island, as well as discuss the next steps in the recovery effort.

“Our hearts go out to the families, friends and community affected by this devastating event,” according to a county officials.

A full semi-load of the 5-gallon buckets, containing non-perishable food, water, hygiene items, first-aid kits, Bibles and handwritten notes of encouragement, has left the the God’s Pit Crew warehouse in Danville, Va., and is now making its way to the Valley Isle.

The Kaua‘i Made program, launched in 2006, aims to provide Kaua‘i-made products with more visibility and encourage production of value-added agricultural products.

Resources and special funding are available for UH-Maui College students from the hard hit areas of West Maui and Kula.

Four of the victims have been officially identified. The names will be released after their families are notified.
