The Hawai‘i State Legislature passed a resolution recognizing Aug. 8, 2023 as the inaugural Honeycreepers Celebration Day that was inspired by the American Bird Conservancy, local artists, conservationists, students and teachers.

Honolulu City and County Mayor Rick Blangiardi signed a proclamation marking August as Drive Aloha Month to promote road safety and foster a driving culture with the aloha spirit on the island. Other neighbor island counties have signed similar proclamations for the month.

While Category 4 Hurricane Dora will pass well south of the Hawaiian Islands in the next couple of days, the storm will bring high winds of 30 to 45 mph, with gusts over 65 mph.
