A motorcyclist is in critical condition after he was struck by a driver on Wednesday in Wailua.
Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the crash at 1 p.m. near the intersection of Kuamoʻo Road and Waikōlia Street. According to a preliminary investigation, a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 57-year-old man from Līhu‘e, was traveling west on Kuamoʻo Road near the intersection with Waikōlia Street when a 2012 Nissan Rogue, operated by Anela Say, 24, of Kapa‘a, traveling east on Kuamoʻo Road, attempted to turn left onto Waikōlia Street and struck the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was thrown onto the road upon impact and suffered serious injuries, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County. The 57-year-old was taken to Wilcox Medical Center and then medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where he remains in critical condition.

Say, who was uninjured, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury, inattention to driving, and driving without a license, but was later released pending further investigation.
Police records show that Say has a prior criminal history of more than 70 misdemeanor arrests, including nine traffic citations for driving without a license, and five arrests for driving without a license.
Just last week on July 21, Say was stopped and charged with a traffic infraction for unlawful tint. Just over a year ago, she was charged with driving without a license, but the case was dismissed with prejudice.
Kuamo’o Road was closed in both directions for approximately two and a half hours while KPD’S Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
