Funk luminaries The Motet learned to work as an interlocking unit, each member bolstering one another toward the best creative output.
This symbiosis — developed during the past two decades since the group came together — led to a unique style and cohesive musical chemistry, as seen during the band’s immaculate live performances and seamless blend of funk, soul, jazz and rock.
The Motet make their Kaua‘i debut this fall with a stop at Porter Pavilion.
Everyone is invited to experience the group’s unique Colorado funk and dance music grooves Oct. 17 at the venue inside Anaina Hou Community Park, located at 5-2723 Kūhiō Highway, in Kīlauea.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the show starting at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale now for this special night of music by a group still exploring new sonic ideas and finding ways to showcase each other’s skill sets.
All ages are welcome to the rain-or-shine event, with keiki 5 years old and younger free.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase during the show, and there also will be food available on site for purchase. The Pavilion Kitchen will be open with a full menu of hot meals and snacks; vegan/vegetarian options included.
It is a standing room show; however, there will be some seating sections set up throughout the venue available on a first come, first served basis. Some covered raised tables also will be available, set up around the perimeter of the lawn.
The show is one of just three The Motet will play in Hawai‘i during their current tour.
They have sold out shows throughout the nation — always with a fervent fanbase in tow — and performed seven headlining slots at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., plus sets at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Bottlerock, Electric Forest, Bumbershoot, Summer Cam, and High Sierra.
The legendary outfit — composed of Dave Watts (drums), Garrett Sayers (bass), Drew Sayers (keys and saxophone), Ryan Jalbert (guitar) and Sarah Clarke (vocals) — released their 11th studio album “Love Time” in November 2024, which was their first with vocal powerhouse Clarke.
