The County of Kauaʻi’s Office of Economic Development will begin accepting applications Tuesday for its Fiscal Year 2027 Kauaʻi Cultural Programs & Events Grant Program, which will provide about $165,000 to support organizations that preserve and promote the island’s cultural heritage.
The application period is now open and closes on Aug. 20 at 4 p.m.
Grant awards ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 will be available for projects that strengthen Kauaʻi’s cultural identity, preserve traditions and create educational and community experiences for residents and visitors.
“Culture is one of Kauaʻi’s greatest strengths,” said Nalani Brun, director of the Office of Economic Development. “These grants support the organizations and cultural practitioners who preserve our traditions, strengthen community connections, and ensure that future generations continue to share what makes Kauaʻi such a special place.”
Eligible activities include community programs, educational initiatives, Native Hawaiian cultural projects and public events.
Those eligible include Kauaʻi-based nonprofit organizations and Hawaiʻi-based businesses that partner with a Kauaʻi nonprofit serving as a fiscal sponsor. All funded projects must take place entirely on the island of Kauaʻi.
Funding decisions are expected during the week of Sept. 14, with approved projects eligible for funding through Oct. 31, 2027.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the county’s SMApply Grant Portal, accessible through Kauaʻi Forward.
The Office of Economic Development will hold a free informational webinar on the grant program and application process on July 29 at 3 p.m. to assist prospective applicants.
