
Gross named new VP of finance at Catholic Charities Hawai‘i
Catholic Charities Hawai‘i named Cassandra Rayne Gross of Pearl City, O‘ahu, as its vice president of finance, a position responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and fiscal administration throughout the nonprofit’s statewide operations.
Gross brings 15 years of finance experience, most recently serving at Hawai‘i Pacific University as associate vice president and controller. She led financial reporting, accounting and audit functions, strengthened key stakeholder relationships and drove initiatives that improved operational efficiency.
Gross earned her bachelor’s degree in business and hospitality and master’s degree in business administration from Florida State University. She is active in the community, volunteering for Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i and previously contributing to program initiatives with the Western Association of College and University Business Officers and The Women for Florida State University.

U.S. Congress continues National Sea Grant Network investment; Hawai‘i delegation secures $2.4M
A bipartisan coalition in U.S. Congress reaffirmed its commitment to coastal health by extending the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program, with $2.4 million in federal funding secured through 2026 secured by the Hawai‘i congressional delegation. The national network of 34 university-based programs is an engine for coastal resilience, sustainable seafood, workforce development and environmental literacy.
Hawai‘i’s congressional delegation’s unwavering advocacy for Hawai‘i Sea Grant ensures the state remains a leader in island sustainability, providing resources necessary to protect the state’s unique marine ecosystems and develop a robust blue economy workforce. Hawai‘i Sea Grant will use the $2.4 million to continue bridging the gap between academic research and community action, making sure the state’s coastal communities remain vibrant, sustainable and prepared for challenges of the 21st century.

Hui Kapili Accelerator announces application period for third cohort
Aio and American Savings Bank announce that the application period is open through July 24 for the third Hui Kapili Accelerator, a business development program designed to support and build capacity for Hawai‘i’s construction industry. The 2026 cohort is slated for Sept. 15-Nov. 19 on O‘ahu.
Hui Kapili is aimed at strengthening the construction industry by providing small- and mid-sized businesses with the skills, industry connections and resources needed to grow sustainably and successfully. The accelerator successfully completed two cohorts since launching in 2025, graduating 22 businesses representing a diverse cross-section of the state’s construction industry, including home builders and renovators, pool and spa specialists, interior design professionals, countertop fabricators and more from all four of the state’s counties.
Participants for the 2026 Hui Kapili Accelerator will be selected in August. Interested applicants can visit the Hui Kapili website for additional information and to apply.
