Kaua‘i Police Department advised via social media at just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, that Kīlauea Road is closed, between Kolo Road and Kaikala Street, because of an active police investigation in Kīlauea.
Motorists should use alternate routes and avoid the area until further notice.
People in the area sent video and are reporting to social media outlet HHHNewz that there is a large police response in the area, with some residents who live immediately around the ongoing investigation location being evacuated.
They told the social media outlet that police were responding to a situation involving a man who neighbors said has been an ongoing issue for months.
One person said the man allegedly persistently fired rounds from a gun during the early morning hours throughout the past week. Neighbors also said the man even reportedly pointed a gun at people during previous altercations.
A second video shared with HHHNewz shows police carrying rifles while in tactical gear at the scene, with multiple units responding.
