Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands in May hosted students and faculty from Kula Aupuni A Kahelelani Aloha Public Charter School for a field trip to cultural and historic sites on base.
Students visited Lua Kupapa‘u ‘O Nohili Crypt, Waiapua‘a Bay and hiked to the Nohili Dunes, where they practiced cultural protocol, learned about preservation sites and contributed toward the planting of native a‘ali‘i seedlings.
U.S. Navy provides opportunities through visits such as this one for Kula Aupuni A Kahelelani Aloha Public Charter School so students can engage with Pacific Missile Range Facility’s history, mission and cultural significance.
Meanwhile, meaningful connections are fostered with the island’s students.
“Mahalo to [Kula Aupuni A Kahelelani Aloha Public Charter School] for joining us at [Pacific Missile Range Facility]!” wrote the Navy installation in a June 1 Facebook post. “And a special thanks to our Natural Resources, Security and Public Works departments, sailors and supporting personnel for participating in this special visit.”
