A Kaua‘i resident is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Līhu‘e early Saturday morning.
Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the crash at approximately 3:10 a.m. at the intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Kalepa Street.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with two occupants was traveling east on Kaumuali‘i Highway when it struck a cement curb, collided with two traffic signal poles and overturned. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle and transported to Wilcox Medical Center.
The driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash and has been identified as 24-year-old Caden Garon. The passenger was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu in critical condition.
The intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Kalepa Street was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending to determine whether impairment was also a factor. The investigation remains ongoing.
This is Kaua‘i’s fourth traffic fatality of 2026.
