Forecasters are warning of possible flash flooding across Kauaʻi and Niʻihau as a powerful weather system is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms beginning Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said excessive rainfall could lead to significant flooding through Friday afternoon, with streams and drainage systems at risk of overflowing.
Low-lying and urban areas are particularly vulnerable to runoff, which could damage property and force road closures. Weather officials also warned of potential landslides in areas with steep terrain.
The storm system is being driven by a developing trough west of the Hawaiian Islands that is expected to pull deep tropical moisture northward.
Increased atmospheric instability could further intensify rainfall, raising the risk of flash flooding across the state. Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates from the National Weather Service and the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency.
Additionally, the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency website provides preparedness guidance and additional information.
