Hiker rescued off Kaua‘i trail aftter suffering apparent ankle injury

A 46-year-old man visiting from California was rescued from the Kalalau Trail on Thursday after suffering an apparent ankle injury.

The Kaua‘i Fire Department crew on Air 1 responded to the incident shortly before 12:30 p.m. First responders arrived on scene at the Hanakāpī‘ai Falls landing zone and discovered the hiker.

Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and loaded him into the helicopter, where he was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment.

American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly before 3:05 p.m.
