A northly swell is building in and will create large surf for north-facing shores, peaking Saturday afternoon, March 21, and then slowly declining Saturday night.

The National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, March 22, for the northern shorelines of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau, as large breaking waves rising to 12 to 16 feet are forecast to rise as the swell builds in.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming and other ocean activities dangerous along the coasts under the advisory.
