The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory as a north-northwest swell is expected to create large surf for north-facing shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau.

Large breaking waves reaching 12 to 16 feet and strong currents make swimming dangerous. The public is urged to heed all advice from ocean safety officials.

The high surf advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. For more information, visit the National Weather Service website.
