Public invited to comment on the nominees for Chief Justice, circuit judge

Gov. Josh Green has received the list of nominees to fill the positions of chief justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaiʻi and circuit judge of the Circuit Court of the Second Circuit (Maui).

According to the state constitution, the governor must appoint a judge from the list of nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission within 30 days, which will be followed by state Senate confirmation proceedings.

The Judicial Selection Commission submitted the following nominees, listed in alphabetical order, for chief justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaiʻi:

  • Lance D. Collins, president and principal attorney at the Law Office of Lance D. Collins. He graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
  • Vladimir Devens, associate justice at the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
  • David M. Forman, professor of law at the William S. Richardson School of Law. He graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
  • Benjamin E. Lowenthal, attorney at the Law Office of Benjamin E. Lowenthal. He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law.
  • Sabrina S. McKenna, Interim Chief Justice at the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court. She graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.

The Judicial Selection Commission submitted the following nominees, listed in alphabetical order, for circuit judge of the Circuit Court in the Second Circuit:

  • Ryan M.K. Anderson-Teshima, District Court supervising deputy prosecuting attorney for the County of Maui. He graduated from Southwestern Law School.
  • Annalisa M. Bernard Lee, District Court judge for the Second Circuit. She graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
  • Lance D. Collins, president and principal attorney at the Law Office of Lance D. Collins. He graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
  • Thomas W. Kolbe, deputy corporation counsel for the County of Maui. He graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
  • Zachary P. Raidmae, deputy public defender at the Office of the Public Defender. He graduated from Nova Southeastern University.
