Night work continues for the Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project

Night work with alternating one-lane closures will continue in the Līhuʻe area through Sept. 15 on weekdays for the Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project.
The affected area is Kūhiō Highway (Route 56), from Hardy Street to Kali Road, and Poinciana to Oxford Streets. Within these sections, the center lane in both directions will be closed at night.
The work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Sunday, weather permitting, according to a press release from Kaua‘i County.
Only one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at a time, with alternating closures as work progresses. No left turns will be permitted through the work area; drivers should use alternate routes for left turns. Residents, pedestrians, and motorists are advised to follow the directions of flaggers and obey posted signs.
The night work and lane closures are necessary to continue work on the replacement of water mainlines for the Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project. This project involves upgrading the aging watermain infrastructure to meet current Water System Standards, including fire flow requirements.
Noise, vibration, dust, and other occurrences typical of a construction site are expected during this project, as well as occasional water service shutdowns.
