Break down federal contracting processes, topics with a workshop this Friday

The Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce is hosting an informative workshop on federal contracting and Native Hawaiian organizations Friday.

Led by Native Hawaiian organization specialist Derek Sakaguchi, the session will break down how federal contracting works. Topics include:

• Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) program requirements
• System for Award Management registration
• Subsidiary company structures
• Practical steps to begin pursuing federal opportunities

Sakaguchi has nearly 25 years of experience with the SBA 8(a) program and is a founding member of the Native Hawaiian Organizations Association. He has helped create multiple 8(a) companies, guided organizations through federal certifications, and supported nonprofit formation focused on Native Hawaiian economic development.

The workshop is designed for Native Hawaiian-serving organizations, nonprofit leaders, small-business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals interested in federal procurement opportunities. However, anyone interested in federal contracting is welcome.

The workshop will be at The Hub Coworking Hawaiʻi in Honolulu from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 27. The workshop is $25 for Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce members and $75 for nonmembers, which includes a one-year individual membership.
