A landslide across Kūhiō Highway at Hanalei Hill is blocking access to crews hoping to do power outage repairs in the North Shore community. A handful of outages have been reported island-wide.

The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative reports an outage in Hanalei is affecting some of its customers. Due to the road closure the company says they are unable to send a troubleshooter in immediately.

“Our crews are preparing to fly in via helicopter to assess what’s needed to restore power,” KIUC stated on Facebook.

KIUC previously warned members from Hanalei to Hāʻena are advised to prepare for extended periods without power if outages occur while Kūhiō Highway remains closed.

“We’ll use all available means of communication to keep members informed about current outages, safety alerts, and timeframes for restoration, if known,” stated Chief of Operations Brad Rockwell in a Facebook post.
