County officials on Monday marked the opening of a new self-service motor vehicle registration kiosk in Hanapēpē, expanding access to Department of Motor Vehicles services for residents on Kaua‘i’s Westside.

The kiosk is located inside Western Motor Service along Kaumuali‘i Highway and allows motorists to renew vehicle registrations without visiting a central county office. Officials said the project is a partnership between the County of Kaua‘i, Western Motor Service and technology provider Neumo.

Kauaʻi Mayor Derek Kawakami said the kiosk is intended to make routine government services more accessible to Westside residents and to strengthen community partnerships with local businesses.

The touchscreen kiosk enables users to renew registrations by entering a license plate number or scanning the barcode on a renewal notice. Payments are accepted by debit or credit card, and the system prints registration documents and license plate tabs immediately after the transaction is completed.

The Hanapēpē location joins other self-service registration kiosks across the island, including sites in Princeville, Kapa‘a and Līhu‘e, as well as the Kapulē DMV lobby.

Deputy Finance Director Michelle Lizama said the expansion reflects the county’s broader effort to modernize public services and improve customer access to government functions.
County officials encouraged Westside residents to use the new kiosk for vehicle registration renewals as part of those ongoing efforts.
