Several University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa programs ranked among world’s best

University of Hawaiʻi’s flagship campus on Oʻahu has been ranked among the best in the world.

Five University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa subject areas placed among the top 1% around the globe in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject released Jan. 21.

An additional four of the campus subject areas earned top 2% honors.

Education led the way, ranked in the No. 101–125 tier, followed by physical sciences at No. 126–150, arts and humanities at No. 151–175 and law and life sciences each at No. 201–250.

“We are proud that [University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa] continues to be recognized globally, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence, research and the student experience,” said University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Interim Provost Vassilis Syrmos in a university release about the honors. “These rankings underscore the hard work and dedication of our faculty, students and staff, who make [University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa] a truly exceptional place.”

All University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa rankings:

  • Education studies: No. 101–125.
  • Physical sciences: No. 126–150.
  • Arts and humanities: No. 151–175.
  • Law: No. 201–250.
  • Life sciences: No. 201–250.
  • Social sciences: No. 251–300.
  • Medical and health: No. 301–400.
  • Psychology: No. 301–400.
  • Business and economics: No. 401–500.
  • Computer science: No. 501–600.
  • Engineering: No. 501–600.

Times Higher Education considers the following factors for its rankings:

  • Teaching.
  • Research environment.
  • Research quality.
  • Industry income.
  • International outlook.

Rankings must be within the top 250 in the world — among more than 25,000 colleges and universities around the globe — to qualify for the top 1%.

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa was ranked in all 11 of the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject lists.

Times Higher Education is regarded as one of the leading national and international university rankings focused on research and academic excellence.
