12-foot tiger shark sighted in waters off Keālia Beach
Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials report the sighting of a 12-foot tiger shark swimming in waters off Keālia Beach in Kapa‘a.

Officials effectively closed the beach following the sighting, advising no swimming or other ocean activities at the beach. They continue to monitor the area.
The tiger shark was spotted just before 3:30 p.m. today (Jan. 24) at the Kapa‘a beach. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Kaua‘i Ocean Safety officials posted warning signs at the park as a safety precaution.
Lifeguards will reassess the area later this evening; the beach will reopen for ocean activities Sunday (Jan. 25) if there are no other shark sightings.
