Road, lane closures rescheduled to end of January for various locations in Kapa‘a

Kaua‘i County Department of Public Works and contractor Hirata and Associates announce new times and dates of planned road and single-lane closures for portions of Kukui Street and Niu Street in Kapa‘a.

Closures were rescheduled to 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 28-30, weather permitting.

These traffic modifications are necessary for geotechnical subsurface exploration for proposed traffic signal improvements and installation of a utility pole in the area.

Breakdown of the dates and locations of closures

  • Jan. 28: Single-lane closure of the left turn for Kukui Street, west of the intersection with Kūhiō Highway.
  • Jan. 29: Road closure on a portion of the east side of Kukui Street at the intersection with Kūhiō Highway.
  • Jan. 30: Road closure on the south end of Niu Street at the intersection with Kūhiō Highway.

Additional information

Access to properties will continue to be provided along the affected streets.

Motorists should observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs and flaggers. They also should anticipate detours, lane and road closure delays, plus allow for extra travel time while in the work areas.

The lane and road closures on Kukui and Niu streets were originally scheduled for mid-December 2025.
