Firefighters control blaze at Girardʻs Quality Cleaners in Hanapēpē

Firefighters extinguished a pre-dawn structure fire on Saturday at a commercial building in Hanapēpē, with no injuries reported, according to the Kauaʻi Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 2:25 a.m. to Girard’s Quality Cleaners on Hanapēpē Road, where they arrived to find the building actively burning.
Personnel from the Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, and Waimea fire stations, along with Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and an on-duty battalion chief, responded.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control after determining it originated on the first floor of the structure.
Investigators with the Fire Prevention Bureau assumed control of the scene as crews completed overhaul operations, and firefighters were released shortly before 7:05 a.m. Damage to the building and its contents was estimated at over $4 million.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
