A collaborative design meeting aims to engage the public and community stakeholders in shaping the future of Halekō Road between Nāwiliwili Road and Rice Street.

The County of Kauaʻi is partnering with the Hawaiʻi Department of Health and the Hawaiʻi Public Health Institute to improve health outcomes and transportation safety on Kauaʻi during the meeting set for the week of Jan. 12, 2026.

Halekō Road connects Rice Street and the Līhuʻe Town Core to businesses and residences on the other side of Nāwiliwili Stream, including new affordable housing on Pūʻā Loke Street. However, its existing design is challenging for many road users.

The project scope includes roadway rehabilitation and resurfacing, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and traffic flow enhancements. Specific design components will be developed during the design meeting based on community input.
