No injuries reported following blaze at Kaua‘i Sea Farm aquaculture facility
No injuries were reported following a structure fire in Kalāheo.
Kaua‘i firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at the Kaua‘i Sea Farm aquaculture facility on the eastern shore of Nomilu Fishpond in Kalāheo on Tuesday shortly after 7:30 a.m.
According to a preliminary report, firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 7:50 a.m. Once on scene, they found a one-story structure actively on fire, with the blaze originating on the first floor and spreading beyond the building of origin.

“Crews quickly initiated fire suppression efforts and successfully contained and extinguished the fire despite several challenging conditions, including an inadequate private water supply, a combustible roof assembly, and limited access for fire department apparatus,” a Kaua‘i County release stated. “Firefighters were also able to leverage the newly placed-in-service 4×4-capable Water Tanker 5 from Kalāheo, which was able to navigate the muddy, limited-access road that standard fire engines could not, helping prevent further spread and additional damage.”
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 10:40 a.m. Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $144,000.
Personnel with the Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, and Waimea fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
