Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank awarded $25,000 grant from Nareit Hawai‘i

Nareit Hawai‘i announced earlier this week that it is awarding a total of $120,000 in grants to five community nonprofits throughout the state.

The funds are aimed at supporting educational and social well-being programs provided by two O‘ahu-based organizations and three food banks helping residents and families cope with hunger on Maui, Hawai‘i Island and Kaua‘i.

“We selected these nonprofits for grants knowing how vital they are to their communities and the challenges they are facing in the current economic environment to help residents who depend on their services to improve their lives and meet their basic daily needs,” said Nareit Hawai‘i Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone in an announcement about the grant awards.

The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank: $25,000

A $25,000 grant from Nareit Hawai‘i will support The Kauai Independent Food Bank’s 6-person operation that feeds residents of all ages, including the delivery of easy-to-prepare, low-sodium and high-protein meals to the elderly and providing children with healthy snacks at school and food on weekends through its Backpack Program.
