Utility work, excavation underway along parts of Kawaihau Road in Kapaʻa

Utility work and excavation are underway along portions of Kawaihau Road in Kapaʻa, requiring road closures to accommodate the work.

Hawaiian Dredging Construction, under contract with Kauaʻi County Department of Water, is doing the work. Refer to the highlighted map accompanying this story for the specific work zones.

The county sent out a reminder late Wednesday afternoon to remind the public that the project is expected to continue through Dec. 22.

Here are additional details provided by Kauaʻi County Department of Water:

  • Project dates: Oct. 29 through Dec. 22.
  • Location: Kawaihau Road, from Kaʻapuni Road to Kapahi Road.
  • Work hours: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays only.

Traffic advisory:

  • Road closures will be on weekdays only.
  • No parking is allowed in the designated work zones.
  • One-lane closures will be in effect; access to properties will be provided.
  • Obey all posted signs, traffic controls and flaggers.
  • Motorists should expect delays and encouraged to allow extra travel time.

“Every effort will be made to complete this project efficiently and with minimal disruption,” said the county Department of Water in its notice to the public about the project and road closures. “We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve the water system in your community.”

All work is weather permitting, and the schedule is subject to change.
