Water is essential to everyday life. Without it, what would we miss?

Showers, flushing toilets, watering gardens, washing clothes or dishes. It would all be gone without water. Also, consider how water impacts fire suppression, schools, hospitals, restaurants and businesses.

“Imagine a Day Without Water” — observed on Oct. 16 — is a national day of action, when communities nationwide pause to recognize the vital role water plays and the critical need to invest in aging water infrastructure to ensure access for future generations.

“By imagining a day without water, we gain a deeper appreciation for this vital resource and the importance of investing in the infrastructure that delivers it to our taps,” said Department of Water officials in the announcing the special observance.

As part of its “Imagine a Day Without Water” observance today, the department is giving away a free collapsible emergency water storage jug to each customer, while supplies last, who stops at the display table in the main lobby at its offices located at 4398 Pua Loke St. in Līhuʻe.

This token of appreciation is meant to raise awareness and encourage community engagement around the importance of reliable, safe and affordable water in daily life.
