A man from Puhi is dead following a two-vehicle crash in ʻŌma‘o.

The crash occurred on Friday at approximately 4:45 p.m. when a 2010 Toyota SUV was making a left turn onto Kaumuali‘i Highway from ʻŌma‘o Road and was struck by a 2015 Honda motorcycle traveling east on the highway, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County.

The motorcyclist, a 69-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries. He was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota SUV, a 64-year-old woman from ʻŌma‘o, did not report any injuries.

Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed in both directions for approximately 2 1/2 hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, and toxicology results are pending to determine if impairment played a role.
