Kaua‘i resident Aaron Hamm captured an image of a humpback whale breaching from the Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapepe.

Hamm said he took the photo on Jan. 12, adding there were two other whales “jumping like crazy for around 25 minutes.”

“Some of the most activity I have ever seen,” Hamm recalled.

Every winter, thousands of Humpback Whales travel to the warm, shallow waters off Hawaii to mate, give birth and raise their young.
