A 62-year-old man from Keālia is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Monday night near the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kāpule Highway in Līhuʻe.

According to Kaua‘i police, the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, when the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet truck, traveling eastbound on Kūhiō Highway, veered out of control and struck multiple roadside structures — including a traffic barrier, signal pole, metal gate, and wooden fence.

Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

He was taken to Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe and later airlifted to Straub Medical Center on O‘ahu for advanced treatment.
