Kauaʻi County holding collections for household hazardous waste

The Public Works Solid Waste Division in Kauaʻi County is reminding residents about its upcoming monthly household hazardous waste collections.

On Oct. 18, collections will take place at the Hanapēpē Base Yard and the Kapa‘a Base Yard. On Oct. 19, collections will be held at Anaina Hou Community Park, located behind Kaua‘i Mini Golf, and at the Kaua‘i Resource Center, in front of the Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station.

All collections run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Accepted items include automotive products, lawn and garden chemicals, oil-based paints, thinners, stains, fluorescent bulbs, and household or rechargeable batteries (up to 4 lbs), along with lead-acid batteries.

Not accepted are e-waste, propane tanks, medical waste, latex paint, tires, used motor oil, fireworks, ammunition and flares.

The collection events are for residents only.
