Kauaʻi Humane Society waives adoption fees for dogs, cats this weekend, next month
The Kauaʻi Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for all animals today and tomorrow, and again from Saturday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 12, to help alleviate capacity.

The Kauaʻi Humane Society reached maximum kennel space for the second time this summer while operating over capacity for more than two years. The nonprofit currently has 363 animals in its care.
However, a grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) allows the humane society to waive adoption fees for every animal and offer dog adoptions to people living on the mainland for $100. The discounted fee covers all expenses needed to get a pet to their new home, including the adoption fee, airfare, and travel kennel.
“We are so honored to have been chosen for the Rescue Effect Campaign Grant from the ASPCA,” said Tanya Ramseth, director of development at the Kauaʻi Humane Society. “This support has allowed us to provide all the necessary veterinary care prior to the pet’s adoption and waive the local adoption fees.”
Visit the Kauaʻi Humane Society website to view adoptable dogs and adoptable cats. Interested adopters can apply for animals directly on the animal’s profile or email customerservice@kauaihumane.org. Staff will reach out to the adopter to schedule an appointment.
Staff can also facilitate a virtual meet-and-greets and assist in off-island adoptions.
“Even with several successful adoption events this summer, we are still seeing more dogs enter the shelter than leave,” Ramseth said. “We hope anyone with room in their heart and home will consider welcoming a new companion into their ‘ohana.”
