Kauaʻi Fire Department personnel rescue injured visitor from Kalalau Trail Saturday

An injured 72-year-old Swiss visitor was rescued from Hanakāpī‘ai Beach on the Kalalau Trail by Kauaʻi Fire Department personnel on Saturday.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received information about an injured hiker shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Personnel from Līhuʻe Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident and arrived at the scene to discover the injured hiker with an apparent head injury.

Initial first aid was administered on the scene to control the bleeding. The hiker was then taken to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were transported to Princeville Airport.

Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Hanalei Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care. The scene was cleared shortly before 1:20 p.m.
