Original post at 9:51 a.m. Aug. 7, 2025: Hawai‘i Department of Health is retesting waters near the pavilion at Poʻipū Beach Park after higher than normal levels of bacteria were found during recent routine monitoring.

A high bacteria notification has been issued for that area of the beach in response while retesting is underway.
Bacteria levels of 344 most probable number per 100 mL were detected during the recent routine testing. State Health Department officials are uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample because the beach historically meets the acceptable threshold level.
There also is no known source of fecal contamination.
Therefore, another water sample was collected and is being tested. Hawai‘i Department of Health will update the notification based on those results.
Visit the state Health Department Clean Water Branch website for additional information about this specific high bacteria notification.
