A California visitor was rescued from the Kalalau Trail after suffering a reported ankle injury.

Kaua‘i Fire Department received the report of a distressed hiker on Sunday evening. However, due to darkness, the rescue was performed the following day for the safety of first responders and the hikers, Kaua‘i County officials stated in a press release.

Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the alleged injured hiker on Kalalau Beach, who was with two minors, shortly after 11:05 a.m. on Monday.

The 52-year-old visitor and minors were loaded into the helicopter at the Kalalau Beach landing zone, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was evaluated by American Medical Response and refused further medical attention.
