A crew from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 32-year-old female tourist who injured her ankle on Saturday while hiking Waipo‘o Falls Trail in Kōke‘e.

First responders received a call of an injured hiker shortly after 1:20 p.m., according to the preliminary report.

Firefighters from the Waimea fire station hiked approximately a quarter mile along the trail to find the woman from California. She was alert and responsive but unable to walk.

Firefighters stabilized the injury with a splint and used a litter and wheel to carry the hiker off the trail. She was transported to the Pu‘u Hina Hina parking lot, where American Medical Response personnel evaluated her. She was then taken to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital by private vehicle.
