Hawai‘i residents impacted by ‘big beautiful’ federal tax bill have new resource to help
U.S. Senator Brian Schatz of Hawai‘i is providing a new online guide to help island residents who could be impacted by major changes expected to health care, food assistance and other services associated with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act federal tax law.
“While we are working every day to blunt the impact of these cuts to our state, everyone should know what’s coming, how to prepare, and where to find help,” said Schatz in an announcement about the new resource. “I encourage everyone to explore this guide and find resources that may be helpful to you.”
The online guide includes resources for Med-QUEST and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, beneficiaries along with helpful information about changes to education and tax policy.
It also includes key dates for major changes and will be regularly updated as new information becomes available.
Med-QUEST coverage for more than 40,000 people in Hawai‘i is estimated to be cut by the new federal tax law. It’s expected to gut food assistance programs relied on by more than 20,000 Hawai‘i families.
The Republican-backed tax law also is estimated to raise the national debt by $3.3 trillion.
