Kauaʻi firefighters responded to a structure fire in Port Allen Thursday night
The Kauaʻi Fire Department extinguished a structure fire that displaced an individual in Port Allen on Thursday night.
Kauaʻi firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Waialo Road after 9:45 p.m. on Thursday. Personnel with the Hanapēpē, Waimea, and Līhu‘e fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 9:50 p.m., firefighters discovered a residence on fire. The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative shut off power to the units. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure.
No injuries were reported and damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $116,000.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 11:00 p.m. and Kauaʻi Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation on the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
