Minor coastal flooding expected during high tides this week
Peak monthly high tides this week are expected to bring minor coastal flooding throughout the Hawaiian Island chain.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, high tides combined with water levels running higher than predicted will lead to minor flooding along the shorelines and in low-lying coastal areas. Coastal flooding is possible around the daily peak tide, which will be during the afternoon hours.
The coastal flooding will continue through the afternoon hours and persist for the next few days, until Thursday, at around daily peak tides.
Flooded beaches that are normally dry may see minor coastal erosion and saltwater inundation.
