To Capt Andy’s, thanks for everything! Surfrider Kaua‘i
Capt Andy’s has a long history of generosity around Kaua‘i, sponsoring many community events, providing tours as prizes for local fundraisers and even donating entire tours to community organizations.
So Surfrider Kaua‘i had plenty of thanks and gratitude to show for the Port Allen-based tour and adventure company after it helped reward the nonprofit’s hardworking and dedicated volunteers with an amazing sunset Nā Pali Coast dinner cruise.

“The weather cooperated, the seas were not too bad and the Kalalau Valley squall that threatened rain instead decided to grace us with a specularly vivid ānuenue [rainbow],” Surfrider Kaua‘i wrote in an email, adding that a small pod of spinner dolphins even provided a bit of live entertainment off Kekaha.
It was a catamaran cruise complete with all the creature comforts, facilitated by a fantastic crew that allowed the Surfrider team to relax and enjoy the open ocean air and surreal sunset atmosphere.
Oh, and the food — chef’s kiss; it was so fresh and ʻono.
“No matter how many times you make that trip, you always see and learn something new,” the nonprofit wrote.
Capt Andy’s not only supports Surfrider’s mission, the firm also puts it into practice.
The company — which has taken guests since 1983 on its famously friendly boat tours along Nā Pali Coast on the Garden Isle’s North Shore — recently joined Surfrider’s Ocean Friendly Restaurant program.
Yes. A boat can also be a restaurant.
Adopting eco-friendly practices while at sea is especially critical — you don’t get a better chance to be “ocean friendly” than when you’re on the ocean.
Surfrider Kaua‘i volunteers and leadership could tell right away during their Nā Pali Coast cruise that Capt Andy’s was already doing everything it takes to be an Ocean Friendly Restaurant — using reusable dishware, proper recycling and no single-use plastics, among making other efforts to be as ocean safe as possible.
It was the enthusiasm of the boat’s chef that brought Capt Andy’s into the “ocean friendly” fold, and the company became a member of the program the next day.
The Ocean Friendly Restaurant program — launched in 2013 — honors restaurants committed to cutting out wasteful single-use plastic and offers a simple, straightforward framework to help them make sustainable choices that are better for the ocean.
