Update: Heavy rain diminishes over windward Kaua‘i; flooding no longer threat

Update at 12:12 a.m. April 17: National Weather Service radar shows that the heavy rain over windward Kaua‘i has diminished and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.

Therefore, the flood advisory that was in effect until 2 a.m. for the area was canceled.

Original post at 11:15 p.m. April 16: Heavy rain moving over east Kaua‘i is causing flooding on roads and in poor drainage areas and streams, causing the National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu to issue a flood advisory for the area until 2 a.m.

Radar indicated at 11:01 p.m. heavy rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour over windward Kaua‘i, with the heaviest falling from Līhuʻe northward to Anahola.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Līhuʻe, Kapaʻa, Kīlauea, Wailua Homesteads, Wailua, Anahola, North Fork Wailua Trails, Moloaʻa, Wailua River State Park, Keālia, Hanamāʻulu, Puhi and Kalihiwai.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
